Hiking in Mani 2018
It will be 29/05/18 – 09/06/18.It is something very special to explore this unique area by walking.
Hiking on paths high in the mountains or along the shore – the view of the sea often accompanies us. Besides the wonderful nature also original villages with stonebuilt houses, old churches with well-preserved frescoes or deserted plains in the mountains can be explored on our walks.
Best times for hiking are spring and autumn. So Pirgos Mavromichali offers to its costumers walks with an certified hiking-guide (from April 1st – April 12th, 2013 and two weeks in September of 2013). Of importance is more the intense experience of Maniate nature and culture than athletic performance. This includes visiting a cosy taverna or resting together under olive trees.
The difficulty of the offered hikes is little to medium, the walking times 2 to 5 ½ hours. The walking-tours mainly proceed on cobbled paths (“kalderimia”), hiking trails or dirt roads. Destinations are for example the Tigani-peninsula (with remains of a medieval fortress), the monastery of Panagia Spiliotissa, Cape Tenaro (the southernmost point of the European mainland), the Koskaraka-Gorge or the town of Areopolis nearby.
Interested guests may register the day before each walk. The costs are € 10,-to 20,- depending on the tour (not including possible fare or consumption in a taverna). You need hiking boots and a rucksack (for drinks e.g.).
